Pitbull Countersues Lindsey Lohan

Rapper Pitbull has filed a countersuit against actress Lindsey Lohan. The troubled actress sued the rapper and singer/songwriter Ne-Yo over their hit "Give Me Everything" which referenced her in the lyrics. For his part, Pitbull has denied any malicious intent in the lyric.

In the song, Pitbull raps "I got it locked up like Lindsay Lohan."

He has filed a suit himself that claims Lohan's numerous prison sentences and other run-ins with the law give the line validity. He also alleges that her suit in New York is invalid as she's a resident of California.

Nas & Amy Winehouse Tracks May Surface

Producer Salaam Remi has confirmed that there are numerous Amy Winehouse and Nas collaborations that may yet see the light of day. Winehouse passed away this summer at the age of 27, but she and the rapper Nas had a strong bond.

"Amy sang on records that we never put out with Nas," Remi said in an interview. "As far as them now getting on the same record, that was a conversation in play for the last couple of years but that just didn't happen yet, and when I listened to that song, I was like, you know what? This makes sense, to actually make that happen as far as things that she wants to do that didn't happen yet."

"As far as myself, I feel like I'm repping her musically because that's what I know of her more than anyone else," he added. "And then as far as where [Nas is] at, he put that energy back into [the song], because she repped for him. I mean, who writes songs for people, unless you really respect them?"

Jay-Z On Hip Hop Perceptions:

Jay-Z reflected on the Glastonbury Festival in 2008 and the controversy from the show and also acknowledged the various 'checkpoints' that he believes hip hop has had to continuously knock down over the years.

"It was just another one of those checkpoints. It felt like the DMX 'Hard Knock Life' conversation all over again, to have that conversation of, 'No, rappers, we can tour together. We don't have to have an outside R&B act or anything like that.' Done," he said. "People listen to music differently now. That was the old guard holding onto something they thought was dear. 'We can't let any other type of music infiltrate this rock festival.' But people don't listen to music like that no more. Globally, anywhere. Everyone's iPod is a list of all eclectic things. You have some rock, some blues, some jazz - all types of things, whatever you like. They try to keep this thing segmented."

"It's like a misconception of anything," he said. "I can have a misconception of anything I hear one or two words from. If you hear buzz words coming from Hip Hop or anything like that, you say that's what it's all about. It's very difficult to fairly analyze something in a 30-second blip. If I analyze even a Maya Angelou in a 30-second blip, I can misjudge who she is as a person and she happens to be the most incredible poet of our time."

Pete Rock On Heavy D:

Superproducer Pete Rock shared his shock and bereavement over the unexpected death of his cousin, rap star Heavy D. Pete Rock spoke to Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds on Hot 97 about the passing of the beloved Overweight Lover.

"A couple of SKYY vodkas last night, just trying to fathom the thought of all of this. It's very hurtful. This man, he gave me everything, you know?" he said. "It's unbelievable. I didn't expect this to happen so fast. I was just with him, two weeks ago at his house. I spent the night. He didn't even want me to leave, he didn't want me to go. I laughed at him, it was crazy."

"We did something. I finished something with him like two weeks ago, finished," Rock revealed. "When people call you that don't call you and then your phone is just blowing up with those kind of calls, my stomach got kind of weak. DJ Scratch called me first because that's my homie, and he let me know," he continued. "I felt like he was my guider, the person who put me in place. He was my number one believer."

Heavy D's Death Sparks Reactions

Doug Morris, Chief Executive of Music Entertainment for Sony has revealed that the company is looking to possibly acquire one of hip hop's biggest labels in a distribution deal. Morris is planning on bidding on the contracts for several labels--most notably, Cash Money Records. Once its distribution contract with Universal expires, Sony could make a move.

"My plan here is very simple," Doug Morris told the New York Times. "To help create the pre-eminent record company in the world."

There will likely be a bidding war between Sony and Universal with Cash Money heads Bryan "Baby" and Ronald "Slim" Williams deciding where the label winds up.

"In each company that I've gone to run, that's always been the same question," Mr. Morris told the New York Times. "And each company has gone to be the No. 1 company and the most innovative company. And I think the reason I'm never getting the credit for this is because I'm the oldest guy."

"Our core focus still needs to be developing hits," he said. "That's the only constant amidst all the change. So if you don't get that right, it doesn't matter how revolutionary the distribution model is or how many revenue streams you have. You still have to have the hits."

No Limit Signs Romanian Pop Star

No Limit Forever Records has made headlines by signing Romanian pop star Catalina Toma to their label. The label that was founded by New Orleans rap mogul Master P. and is now being run by his son Romeo has been primarily associated with southern rap acts, so the signing comes as something of a surprise.

Catalina Toma has released two albums in Romania and won "Best Female Voice" and "Video Of The Year" awards in her home country for her hit "Why Me Lord?"

"Signing Catalina was a no-brainer. She's one of the most talented Pop and R&B vocalists in the world," Master P told AllHipHop. "Catalina is a diamond in the rough. And she's the missing piece to the puzzle for No Limit Forever Records taking over the crossover markets," Romeo added.

Drake Wasn't Satisfied With Debut'

Young Money superstar Drake revealed in an interview with the L.A. Times that he wasn't exactly pleased with his debut album Thank Me Later. Critical reaction to the album was mixed, and Drake himself doesn't feel that the project hit its mark.

"To be 100% honest … I wasn't necessarily happy with Thank Me Later," he says. "People loved it [but] I just knew what I was capable of with a little more time. I'm very confident in Take Care. I definitely made the exact album that I wanted. Will it appear that way to the world? I'm not sure, because its definitely different. It's not 15 'I'm On Ones.' It's not 'She Will.' I'm very happy with [Take Care]. More so than I've ever been with a project."

"This album has consistency. You will not hear a piece of music that does not belong," he said. "The words were really important to me. When you get a young artist and they are on the rise, often the music becomes not what they have going on in their lives or surrounding things, but it starts to lose substance. You can always be like, 'Man I'm the …' but I think you have to thread some life in there so there's something that will last."
